18+ Best Spots For Margaret River Camping in 2024!

Margaret River camping is a beautiful way to connect with nature and spend time with your loved ones. The Margaret River Region is renowned for its pristine National Park lands abundant in flora and fauna.

There are two styles of camping in Margaret River. Firstly, there are the Department of Parks and Wildlife style campgrounds, which provide basic facilities for well-prepared campers looking to sleep under the stars and wake up to bird songs in natural bushland. There are also Holiday Parks in the region, who offer caravan and camping spaces and a host of facilities for its guests.

I have split this list into these two different styles, and I have also only included Margaret River camping spots within a short drive of Margaret River. As a Margaret River local who has worked in accommodation in Margaret River for the last 7 years, literally helping thousands of people plan their holidays in the region, and also as a keen camper, I am the perfect person to tell you all about the different Margaret River campgrounds!

Bush Camping Margaret River

If you are wanting bush camping near Margaret River, start with this list. These campgrounds are carefully developed in designated areas in order to minimize the impact on natural bushland. Many have modern but simple facilities and most are 2wd accessible. These campgrounds are very popular in peak tourist periods like school holidays so it is recommended you book early!

If your preferred campground Margaret River isn’t able to be booked, arrive early and have a backup plan. As these campgrounds are set in natural bushland it is incredibly important to follow up-to-date bushfire advice and also take all your rubbish away with you. Let’s cooperate to keep our beautiful national parks as pristine and peaceful as they are now!

1.Conto Campground

Conto Campground is in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and is easily accessible by 2WD. The road in is unsealed but well-maintained.

Conto’s was one of the campgrounds Margaret River affected by bushfires in December 2021 but most sites have reopened. There are a variety of sites in different ‘loops’ and you are able to book a loop that suits you. From swags to camper vans or trailers Conto’s offers suitably sized sites amongst coastal peppermint woodland.

Conto’s has toilets (no flush, pit toilets) and dishwashing facilities (cold water only). There are gas BBQs there and you are allowed to use your own BBQ unless a total fire ban has been declared. There are fire rings and firewood for those coolers nights but ensure to check up-to-date bushfire advice as it can change without notice. Generator use is not allowed.

The Cape to Cape Track is easily accessible from the campground and you can walk to Conto Springs beach. Conto Springs Beach is a stunning section of our coastline and is a popular surfing and fishing spot! If you prefer to relax there is a beautiful white sandy beach here or rock pools to explore.

2.Jarrahdene Campground

Jarrahdene Campground is one of the newest DPAW campgrounds in the region. It is located conveniently between Margaret River and Augusta. The campground is easily accessible by 2WD. If you are looking for camp sites Margaret River where you can relax in the forest, then Jarrahdene Campground may be for you! Jarrahdene offers a range of sites to suit swags through to caravans and is nestled amongst karri, marri and peppermint bushland.

Jarrahdene is unique in that the site used to be an old timber mill owned by MC Davies dating back to the 1900s. Remnants of the old mill can be seen throughout the site and there is an interpretative walk being developed so you can learn some of the history of the region!

Jarrahdene offers gas BBQs, toilets (no flush, pit toilets), fire pits and cold water access.

3.Boranup Campground

If you are looking for camping Margaret River within the Boranup Forest, then Boranup Campground could be for you! Nestled amongst the Karri trees in our magnificent Boranup Forest, the campground itself is one of the smallest in the region with a capacity of only seven tents or campers. This campground cannot be pre-booked.

The campground is accessible by 2WD on an unsealed gravel road through the forest. There are toilet facilities here (no flush, pit) and bbq or fire pits can be used mostly between April and November but it’s crucial to always check current bushfire advice.

Given its small capacity Boranup campground fills up quickly, especially during school holidays or long weekends. We recommend you have an alternative site in mind just in case!

4.Point Road Campsite

Point Road Campsite is set on the fringes of our beautiful Karri forest amongst peppermint woodland. Point Road campground is 4WD accessible only. This Margaret River campsite is a small-capacity campground with space to accommodate seven tents or small campers.

The sites are well sheltered by the surrounding bushland. Facilities include gas BBQ, picnic table and a no-flush, pit toilet. As always, please check up-to-date bushfire advice before using a fire pit or BBQ.

Bookings are not able to be made for Point Road campground so have a backup plan in place in case it is full! This is one of my favourite camping spots Margaret River because of it’s location and the peace and quiet of the camp.

5.Canebrake Pool Campground

Canebrake Pool Campground is located on the edge of Margaret River. This Margaret River camping grounds feels “off the beaten track’” as the road conditions can vary throughout the year and is often quite corrugated. It offers capacity for nine tents or campers but does have a large open area for day use.

The pool itself is fresh water and easily accessible from the main carpark. It is perfect for activities like kayaking, swimming, or picnics by the water’s edge.

There are picnic tables, fire rings, and drop toilets and most often fires can be lit April-November. Once again it is very important to check up-to-date bushfire advice first. These sites cannot be pre-booked so have a backup plan in place!

6.Sues Bridge Campground

Sues Bridge Campground is on the banks of the Blackwood River between Margaret River and Nannup, making it a great option for camping Margaret River Region. This Margaret River camping sites has 25 sites suitable for swags, tents, small campers and larger vans. Two of these sites and toilet facilities are wheelchair accessible. These sites can not be pre-booked.

Sue’s Bridge also has an area for day-trippers and with its convenient access to the Blackwood River, it’s perfect for activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming or picnics by the river.

Sue’s Bridge has facilities such as covered picnic tables, gas BBQs, cold-water taps and food preparation surfaces. There are also fire pits and fire rings for use when fires are permitted. This is one of the Margaret River camp sites where you can really get back to nature.

7.Warner Glen Campground

Warner Glen Campground is also known as Chapman Pool and is a DPAW camping. It is located on the banks of Chapman Brook near its connection with the Blackwood River. This campsite Margaret River has nine individual sites and a small open area designed for a group that fits about five tents.

This Margaret River campground is popular with families as it offers a small beach perfect for swimming and for easy launching of kayaks and canoes! A short downstream paddle brings you out into the Blackwood. There is also a short bushwalking trail along the riverbank.

Warner Glen offers undercover gas BBQs, drop toilets and picnic benches. Fires are able to be lit when permissible and as with all our beautiful bush campgrounds, please check up-to-date advice!

8.Alexandra Bridge Campground

Alexandra Bridge Campground is a beautiful place to visit! Located on the banks of the Blackwood River, this tranquil campground offers serene views and an abundance of wildlife. Whether you’re looking for an escape from the hustle-and-bustle or hoping to get back in touch with nature, Alexandra Bridge Campground is the perfect spot.

Here, you can take a refreshing dip in the water, go fishing or canoeing, and take advantage of the boat ramp. On-site amenities include toilets (including disability access), cold showers, gas barbeques, picnic tables and rubbish bins – but please note that there’s no camp kitchen, laundry, hot water, power or chemical dump point.

If you’re looking for a peaceful and picturesque camping experience, Alexandra Bridge Campground is the place to be! This is one of the best camping sites Margaret River, and also happens to be one of my favourite places to go to. Excellent location, and the river is so gorgeous here.

Margaret River Tourist Park is the perfect place to stay for travellers of all kinds. If you are looking for campsites near Margaret River, you can’t get much closer than here! Located right in the heart of Margaret River, this tourist park has a wide range of accommodation options and facilities to suit your needs. Whether you’re solo or travelling with family, you’ll find something that suits your budget and style of travel.

The park offers cottages and deluxe cabins perfect for couples or small families, as well as ensuite, powered and unpowered caravan sites. There are also a range of facilities on-site to make your stay even more enjoyable, including BBQ areas, a camp kitchen, laundry facilities, and free Wi-Fi.

For those who love the great outdoors, Margaret River Tourist Park is perfect. You’ll have access to walking trails and plenty of native wildlife. Plus, your furry friends are welcome too! Pets are allowed at this park on a lead at all times.

10.RAC Margaret River Nature Park

RAC Margaret River Nature Park is absolutely perfect for a stay on the edge of the Wooditjup National Park (formerly Bramley). The accommodation offerings provide something for everyone; from the eco-lodge and cabins, to the glamping tents and caravan sites, through to dorms – there’s an option for everyone. And the best part? It’s only a couple of kilometers to Margaret River town centre, making it an ideal spot to explore this stunning region from!

If you are looking for Margaret River powered camping sites, then the powered campsites at RAC Margaret River Nature Park, which are ideal for caravans, camper trailers, and tents, might be for you! All sites are located on hard ground so make sure to bring your heavy-duty tent pegs!

Each of their spacious powered campsites offers 240-volt/15-amp power, plus all the camping facilities you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Their amenities block includes showers, toilets, a laundry room, and a kitchen area. They also have camp BBQ facilities and fire pits which are perfect for roasting marshmallows (subject to seasonality).

There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained during your stay. Hire a bike and explore the bushland trails, play a game of table tennis, or just sit back and take in the tranquil views from your campsite in the forest. The park also has a fantastic nature playground and a camp kitchen which is in the large shed of the old Wharncliffe Mill. The shed is even a popular wedding and events venue.

11.Riverview Tourist Park

Before I get into explaining Riverview Tourist Park for you, just be aware they can’t accommodate for tents, so if this is you, skip to the next option. If you have a caravan or a campervan, read on!

Riverview Tourist Park is the perfect base for a relaxing holiday in Margaret River. Located just one kilometre from town, the park offers stunning views of the river and state forests and is set within a beautiful garden setting.

The accommodation offered ranges from deluxe cabins with en-suites to caravan and campervan bays with either en-suites or shared bathroom facilities. All accommodation comes with heating and cooling, linen and balconies that overlook the river. Free gas barbecues are also provided in the camp kitchen area.

At Riverview Tourist Park you’ll get to enjoy all of Margaret River’s attractions without leaving home. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or an action-packed holiday, Riverview Tourist Park is the perfect destination. With laundry facilities and free Wi-Fi also available, you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

12.BIG4 Taunton Farm Holiday Park

Smack bang in the heart of the Margaret River Region you’ll find BIG4 Taunton Farm Holiday Park. 

Taunton Farm is located approximately 20 minutes drive north of Margaret River and just 5 minutes north of the little town of Cowaramup but is central to many of the wineries, restaurants and beaches of the region.

Taunton Farm offers a variety of accommodation options with chalets to suit 2-6 guests, powered and unpowered campsites and historical buildings available for venue hire. 

The park’s powered sites are ideal for caravans, camper trailers, buses, motorhomes and tents. All sites have a grassed area with shade trees, and access to their excellent amenities block which includes showers, toilets and laundry facilities. There is also a spotlessly clean camp kitchen and BBQ area available for use.

Dogs are allowed (as long as its not school holidays or long weekends) but you must notify them in advance.

13.Prevelly Caravan Park

Located near the beautiful Margaret River, Prevelly Caravan Park offers a fantastic place for exploring and relaxing. They have powered and non-powered sites, self-contained cabins and cottages as well as onsite vans with kitchens – all at budget prices!

Prevelly Caravan Park is a spacious property that is shady and surrounded by nature, but still within a short stroll from Gnarabup Beach. They have a camper’s kitchen to use with seating and gas BBQ provided as well as communal bathrooms with hot showers and toilets for your convenience. Coin operated laundry facilities are also available onsite.

If you book a site with them, remember to let reception know what kind of setup you’ll be bringing – tent, camper van or caravan etc. – so that they can make sure you get a campsite appropriate for your needs.

14.Gracetown Caravan Park

Gracetown Caravan Park is the perfect spot for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Margaret River. Located just 15 kilometers from the heart of town, you’ll be able to enjoy stunning beaches and national parks without having to sacrifice on any comfort or convenience.

The park offers a range of accommodation options ranging from powered and non-powered camping sites to holiday cabins with en suite facilities. All of their sites come equipped with access to clean amenities, and a fully equipped camp kitchen with BBQs.

The park also has an onsite convenience store, as well as mini golf, a jumping pad and playground to keep the kids entertained. Plus it is super close to the beach at Gracetown, which just happens to be one of my favourite beaches in the region!

15.Big Valley Campsite

Big Valley Campsite is located on a working farm east of Margaret River. Their rustic facilities are kept in pristine condition, and their campsite is the perfect base from which to explore all that this famous region has to offer.

At Big Valley Campsite, they have a range of accommodation options to suit all your needs, from caravan sites with power and water, to tent sites (both powered and unpowered), as well as some drive-through sites. They even have large motor home and big rig sites available.

Their camp kitchen includes a gas BBQ, fridges, burners, kettle and toaster – so you can get your campfire feast underway! There’s a communal fire pit and they provide firewood, so you can sit back and enjoy the evening.

Their ablutions are spotless with plenty of hot water for showers and they even have wheelchair/disabled facilities and laundry facilities available. Their large undercover area is perfect for social events or just enjoying the peaceful surrounds.

They’re pet-friendly too, so your furry friends can join you on holiday – just make sure you keep them on a lead at all times.

16.Fair Harvest Permaculture Campground

Fair Harvest Permaculture Campground is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for campsites Margaret River where you can immerse yourself in nature and learn more about permaculture. Just 6 kilometers outside Margaret River, this permaculture farm has been operating since 1995, and they are now open to the public!

The campground offers a range of accommodation options from secluded campsites nestled under shady trees to open sky campsites for your solar powered caravan. Here you can buy fresh produce and home cooked meals to take back to your campsite, attend yoga or mindfulness sessions in the Old Barn, explore their gardens, farm and permaculture systems at your leisure and sit around the campfire (check seasonal fire ban) and watch the moon rise.

Plus, there are plenty of nearby activities to keep you entertained, from bush walks through their private forrest to mountain biking trails. At Fair Harvest Permaculture Campground you can truly escape into nature and experience a unique way of living.

17.Molloy Hideaway Holiday Park

Molloy Hideaway Holiday Park is the perfect getaway for those seeking a quiet and serene holiday. Located on the mainland side of the Blackwood River (not Molloy Island), just 45 kilometers from Margaret River, this hidden gem offers sweeping views of the Blackwood River, a private boat ramp and is home to a variety of native animals including kangaroos, pelicans, parrots, geese and ducks.

If you are looking for Margaret River campsites with large shady sites, great facilities, and right next to the river, Molloy Hideaway Holiday Park is for you!

This family-friendly holiday park is out of town and away from all the hustle and bustle – so you can truly enjoy some peace and quiet. And there’s lots of fun stuff for the kids (and the big kids) like paddle boarding, canoeing or kayaking, water-skiing and go-karts.

This holiday park has a range of accommodation options available, from cabins and cottages to powered sites and unpowered sites for camping. They also have plenty of amenities including hot showers, BBQ facilities and a communal camp kitchen so you can whip up some tasty meals.

I really like Molloy Hideaway Holiday Park, I think it rivals for some of the best camping Margaret River. I highly recommend it – some of my families best memories have been made at this place, it’s just so good.

18.Olive Hill Farm

Olive Hill Farm is an idyllic spot to get away from it all, yet still be close enough to explore Margaret River and the surrounding area. Located just 13km from Margaret River, this 145-acre working stock farm and olive grove offers a range of accommodation options including camping, caravanning and self-contained vans, as well as a studio and a vintage motorhome!

The campsite is set on a large, open grassed area with plenty of space between each site to ensure everyone has plenty of privacy and can practice “physical distancing”. Pets are also welcome here – just make sure they remain on a lead at all times.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, tranquil getaway with plenty of activities to do in the local area then Olive Hill Farm is an ideal spot! You can even walk down to the actual Margaret River which is located at the foot of the property, how cool!
