Visiting Wonnerup House is an opportunity like no other. As you drive through the Wadandi Country, just 10 kilometers north of Busselton in the South West, you’ll be taken back in time to when George Layman took a land grant of 500 acres here 140 years ago and named it Wonnerup.

As you turn into the driveway of Wonnerup House, you can’t help but be struck by the beautiful setting between the majestic Ludlow Tuart Forest and the spectacular Vasse-Wonnerup wetlands. This peaceful location belies its turbulent history of struggles and tragedy following colonization in the 1830s.

The National Trust has recently undertaken a conservation project to re-roof the property and now it’s open to the public once again. You can visit Wonnerup House as the National Trust undertakes further research and consultation with local Aboriginal cultural custodians, descendants of colonial families and the local community.

Visitors are invited to explore the house while it is being restored and learn more about how the National Trust interprets history, tells stories, and appreciates its beauty.

8.Vasse Wonnerup Wetlands

9.Visit Capel

Capel is the quintessential Western Australian country town. From dairy farms to innovative agricultural pursuits, or hobby farms doing alpacas, viticulture, aquaculture and blue gums, there’s plenty to look at.

Or, you can just head to town to get supplies from one of the many shops. There is an IGA here, a hardware store, a tavern, a bottleshop, a bakery and a couple of cafes. Capel is only a 7 minute drive from Peppermint Grove Beach, so it’s definitely worth a quick visit if you want to replenish supplies!

10.Gnomesville

Gnomesville is a unique and magical place that must be experienced in person! It’s just a forty-minute drive from Peppermint Grove Beach too, so makes a nice outing. With over 5,000 gnomes living in the area, you will be surrounded by a vibrant and lively community.

The exact location can be found off the roundabout which links Wellington Mill Road and Ferguson Road, in the Ferguson Valley. As you approach the area, you will begin to see the gnomes, they are everywhere and become quite intimidating.

Gnomesville is an area of beauty and tranquility, and a perfect place for a picnic or to explore the local area. You can even bring your own personalized gnome so that it can join the community!

Every gnome needs an identity and must have a sign that indicates where it is from. It’s amazing to see how far the gnomes have traveled – as you wander through you will find them from all over the world!
